Derley pleads guilty
Eastern suburbs identity Kenneth Robert (Ken) Derley, 51, pleaded guilty in Sydney District Court yesterday to supplying a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine, or speed. Derley was arrested on April 22 near Goulburn with 901.4 grams of speed. He will be back in court next Thursday.
Workers' plea to bank
Workers from national manufacturing company Steel, Tank, Pipe were no closer to securing their $3.3 million in entitlements despite a vocal protest yesterday outside the National Australia Bank in Sydney. They want the bank to hold off on collecting a $10 million debt from STP.
Experiment goes wrong
Twenty Year 7 students from Tomaree Education Centre were yesterday treated for eye and throat irritations at Nelson Bay Polyclinic after a science experiment with iodine went wrong. Seventeen students returned to school and three went home.
Subsidy allegation refuted
A claim by the Australian Automobile Association that much of the $34 million taxpayer subsidy of northern NSW motorists was being pocketed by service stations has been refuted by a State Government investigation. The Office of State Revenue reported that profit margins of fuel distributors and service stations had fallen since the subsidy scheme began three years ago.
